Major Events of Kolkata Assamese Cultural Association
- KACA on 05 May 24 presented Rupam Bhuyan in an unplugged session who graced the evening of Kolkata Rongali Bihu at Madhusudan Mancha Auditorium.
- Rupohi Haat an Ethnic Craft Fair was organised at Assam Bhawan from 11-13 Jan 24. Also, Uruka Bhoj 23 was organised on 13 Jan 24 at Assam Bhawan with traditional food and music.
- KACA Annual Picnic was organised on 17 Dec 23 with good participation from all members.
- Cultural program to celebrate the Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika was held on 09 Sep 23 at Assam Bhawan.
- Cultural program to celebrate the Bishnu Rabha Divas & tribute to Purushottam Das & Jyoti Prasad was held on 18 Jun 23 at Assam Bhawan.
- To educate kids on Assamese Language; an initiative was undertaken to teach through online coaching mode every weekly by an active KACA member.
- On 7th May, Kolkata Rongali Bihu was celebrated at Madhusudan Mancha starting with “Mukoli Bihu” where Assamese people from across Kolkata participated to showcase Assamese culture in the “City of Joy”. On this occasion popular Assamese singer “Dikshu Sarma” mesmerised the crowd with his popular numbers.

- Cultural program to celebrate the Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika -10 Sep 2022, Time: 5:00 PM onwards, Venue: Assam Bhawan
January:
- “Kolkata Bhogali Bihu” was organised on 12th Jan’20. Several hundred Assamese people of Kolkata together enjoyed the “Uruka Bhoj” with Assamese traditional food, traditional games, songs & dance.
February:
- Annual sports day of KACA was organised on 23rd Feb’20. This is mainly organised to bring together & create networking of the Assamese students studying at Kolkata with senior mentors from Assamese community in Kolkata, under the aegis of KACA.
March:
- An event called “ Time amidst Nature” was organised on 1st March’20: This is an event of “Bird Watching cum Nature camp” for Assamese children in Kolkata to promote/keep the Eco-awareness of budding generation who miss the Greenery & touch of soil of Assam.
- Also, KACA foundation day was celebrated same day evening.
April: Support during COVID Lockdown:
- During Covid Lockdown, KACA extended food / daily essentials and also cash support to Assamese students / employees in various fields / travellers stuck midway in Kolkata, Over 800 people had been supported for almost a month. IRCTC and another NGOs helped KACA in food arrangement.
January:
- 5thJanaury’ 2019, Kolkata Assamese cultural Association, along with “AxomXahityaXobha” organised a daylong event for special centenary celebration “Axom Xahitya Xobha”.
- 13th January: Kolkata Bhogali bihu 2019 was celebrated with traditional Food, sports & music.
February:
- On 3rd February, “Closer to Nature” event: An workshop of “Bird Watching cum Nature camp” for Assamese children in Kolkata to promote / keep the Eco-awareness of budding generation who miss the Greenery & touch of soil of Assam.
- 24th February: Annual sports day of KACA for Assamese students in Kolkata.
March:
- 1st March: KACA foundation day celebrated.
- 4th March to 8th March: KACA student wing was supported to participate in NE student’s “sports & cultural meet”.
May:
- On 5th May, Kolkata Rongali Bihu Utsav was celebrated starting with “Mukoli Bihu” where Assamese people from across Kolkata & neighbouring towns participated to showcase Assamese culture in the “City of Joy”.
- In the event, “Assam Toursim” was promoted through movie & other promotional activities.
June:
- KACA Bihu team “ Ramdhenu” performed 28th June, on invitation to showcase Assamese culture at “ABP tourist spot”. Also, KACA volunteers extended assistance to Assam Tourism team in the event.
August:
- In our own humble effort, volunteers from KACA extended solidarity & distributed some relief material on 4th August amongst the Flood effected people of Belguri village, Monoha; Morigaon district.
September:
- 8th September: KACA celebrated birth anniversary of cultural legend Dr Bhupen Hazarika with following events:
- Bhupendra Sangeet Workshop in the morning.
- A Cultural evening called “Era Bator Xur” in remembrance of the legend.
- 27th September : KACA organised Geetaru Kobitar Exondhya : An evening of Assamese songs & Assamese Poetry recitation; followed by discussion on Assamese language. Event held in association with “Axom Xahitya Xobha”.
November:
An event was organised to pay tribute to late Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his death anniversary. People from all walks of life & all community joined in the event.
January :
- “Kolkata Bhogali Bihu” was celebrated with traditional food, dishes & music. Many non Assamese people / community also joined in the event.
February:
- 10thFebruary : On invitation from “Biswa Bharati University”, Shantiniketan; a team from KACA joined in the first National Seminar on “ Srimanta Sankardev & his times”(organised by Biswa Bharati University). KACA’s President was felicitated in the function &was requested to give a talk on “ Srimanta Sankardeva” in the valedictory
- 18th February : KACA was invited by Rotary Club Kolkata to showcase “Assamese culture ” in “Aussie-Indo Cricket Fest”.
- 25th February : Annual sports day of KACA for Assamese students in Kolkata.
March:
- 3rd to 7th March : KACA students wing participated in NE students Fest.
May:
- 13thMay : “Kolkata Rongali Bihu” was celebrated with great enthusiasm, showcasing the Assamese festival in Kolkata, marking our footprint in the city’s cultural scenario.
June:
- 15th June : KACA Bihu team & volunteers joined the event with Assam Tourism at ABP tourist spot.
August:
- 22nd August : On invitation from IRCTC ( East Zone ) KACA volunteers extended support in distributing food material to the Special Train evacuating Assamese people from Kerala.
September:
- 2nd Sept: “Manuhe Manuhor Babe”: Workshop on Bhupendra Sangeet ( open to all )
- 8th Sept : “Era Bator Xur” : Cultural evening on the occasion of birth Anniversary of legend Dr Bhupen Hazarika.
November :
- 5th November: An event to pay tribute to Dr Bhupen Hazarika on death anniversary.
December:
- 4th December: Showcasing Assamese culture on Invitation of IRCTC on their Annual Day.
- 23rd December: Socio-Cultural exchange excursion of KACA family members.
January: 14th: “Kolkata Bhogali Bihu” was celebrated amongst Kolkata based Assamese people.
February : 19th : KACA annual sports meet was held , mostly to bring together Assamese students at Kolkata under KACA mentorship.
March: 4th: KACA student’s wing was supported to participate in NE student’s sports & cultural meet.
May :
- 6th: Kolkata Rongali Bihu was celebrated in the most prestigious venue at Kolkata : The Rabindra Sadan. For the first time, a landmark event “Mukoli Bihu” was held in the courtyard of Rabindra Sadan (in Kolkata) where local Bengali people / other communities Wide spread media coverage was given to the event.
- 28th : KACA Bihu team was invited to showcase Bihu Dance of Assam in an All India Cultural event organised by Rotary Club at Kolkata.
September :
- A three day event, named “Xomonnay Divas” was organised in association with Bhupen Hazarika Cultural trust to celebrate 91st Birth Anniversary of the legend.
- 8th Sept: Day long program with “ Antaranga Aalap” and Cultural evening / lamp lighting at Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s erstwhile Kolkata A photo exhibition of Life & works of Dr Bhupen Hazarika ( 3 day exhibition ) at “Gaganendra Pradarshan shala”.
- 9th Sept: Workshop on Bhupendra Sangeet in the morning at Assam House. Award ceremony & Cultural evening with distinguished artists from Assam, Bengal & Bangladesh.
- 10th Sept: Closing ceremony of Photo exhibition & other events.
December :
- 3rd Dec: Soroiboti: An event of socio-cultural meet of Assamese people of Kolkata was held.
- 5th Dec: Felicitation ceremony of Kalaratna Sri Ratna Ojah dev by People of Kolkata , organised by KACA.
